Mutual Aid and Housing Movement Solidarity

In 2020, mutual aid projects seemed to be everywhere – either newly formed in response to the pandemic, or longstanding but dealing with a sudden influx of new attention and resources. Many focus on community members supporting each others’ immediate needs: food, clothing, transportation, and cash. How does housing fit into this picture? Shelter is one of our most costly and most essential needs. This open discussion session will be a space to share ideas around how we can build sustainable mutual aid projects around housing that go beyond GoFundMe. Conversation starting points: tenant organizing, pest control, home repair funds, and tenant-homeowner solidarity.
